The first edition of the Helicopter Flying Handbook I ordered was in black and white graphics. I was expecting the colored graphic version. The paper was thin and the photos were not clear and sharp. I put in a request for a replacement copy of the book in color. What suprised me was that I recieved the replacement edition in a few days. The paper is thicker and the photos outstanding. Check the reviews people. Good job Amazon!

Really clear and informative. You can get the manual for free online but I like having this hard copy for studying. Everything is clearly written and in full color.

explains helicopter flight well but you will also need the Aeronautical knowledge book too as this covers the specifics different to a helicopter . I would recommend reading this after the Aeronautical knowledge book. I read it the other way round and had to re-read it for my check ride. Barthelme employs all the tools of post-modernism to discuss progression and how the past clings to us, influences us even if we try to ignore it. A fable that covers literature, family, politics, gender roles, etc. If you can get through the more difficult parts, it comes together at the end. Not necessarily recommended for the beginning reader, but mostly for literature heads looking to see what happens after Beckett.

Though i must say i prefer his short stories, Don B has nothing short of a fab read here.There was a point in the book where I realized in my head I had equated the DF to Bernie from 'Weekend at Bernie's'. If this isn't enjoyable, then I don't know what is.It's been said that the perfect preface to the book is Plath's "Daddy" and I would have to agree.

This is another book I read because it was recommended as one of 1001 books to read before I die. It was published at a time when I was reading the law and then starting a career so I missed it. I personally didn't enjoy it which may be a weakness on my part. I should add some chapters and some side comments were fun. This is another example of the post-Vietnam war literature which I guess I don't understand though I think it was meant for my generation. I m still glad to have read it.

Could not connect with this author. Just could not get involved with this silly story and the author's style. I hated it!

An unconventional book. I had to read it for a class... I probably wouldn't ever read it again.

A little too far fetched for me.

To call 'The Dead Father' a novel is a bit of stretch. It's more of a musing, a strange dream. What there is of a story here lacks focus. It's interesting for a bit, but grows tiresome. Perhaps the book's best part is a book within the book called 'The Manual for Sons', in which a number if differing father types are presented for satirical scrutiny: it's not a pretty picture; but it is entertaining.The praise this novel receives is most likely attributed to its 'differentness', and given the time it was published, in the mid '70s, when there were plenty of calls for the death of the novel and such, and the continued march of post-modern games masquerading as novels, it's not surprising that the 'lit-heads' of the time were fascinated by this one. So if you like that sort of thing, this is for you. Otherwise try out Barthelme's short fiction first; it's far more rewarding - his true metier.

I hate experimental fiction. Don DeLillo and his ilk, they bore me; it's just a lot of fake cleverness. But this book, while you can't deny the avantness of its garde, is...well...the first page brings up the question of just what exactly is lodged in the supine, mile-tall Dead Father's teeth. "Mackerel salad. At least we think it is mackerel salad. In the sagas, it is mackerel salad." Wildly fantastic, caustically funny ( the sex scenes will make you fall out of your chair), prosodically innovative ( I believe Barthelme has invented his own verb tense) and yet, easy to follow and, really, with an old-fashioned plot. It is a parable about the overthrow of old tyrannies -- and in spite of all the literary smartaleckitude it is tender and genuinely moving. You have never read anybody like Barthelme, and if you can find this book anywhere (out of PRINT! how DARE they? ) treasure it. Nothing like it has ever been written or will be again. Sixty-eight stars (if they would allow it.)

The only good thing about this book is that it is short.This is a cliched self help book. It's the kind of thing you might find in a magazine while waiting in the Dr's office.It is totally misrepresented and not about Stoic philosophy. Instead it takes the usual self help advice and tries to wrap it in some Stoic ideas to make it sound unique. Like a little bit of sugar makes the medicine go down. It attempts to give gravitas to a tired group of formulas for success.To make it worse the writing is at a third grade level. The author appears to be talking to children.

I thought its gonna be hard for me to learn thisBUT with the help of this book I just learn anything and everything Stoicism. The book might sounds complicated but it is now this was written in a very simple way for better and easier understanding.

Not knowing anything about the topic, I appreciated the author plainly and simply explaining the history (they also gave me a way to skip ahead if I was not a beginner) .. It gave me a lot to think about, causing me to re-read things the next day to make sure I understood. I initially thought this would be a quick read, which it could have been. However, this book is not one of those read, set down, and move on type of books. It is read, think ... ponder, re-read and think some more. Thus ... it was well written, and something I can recommend.

I read an earlier version of this book back in the early 00s. Still a great read and reference for 802.11 based network design and troubleshooting. Couple this with any CUWN books and projects.

I buy this book because its second version is published in 2015 (and some Amazon comments for it is very good, but today, when check some of these comments, it just give no sense at all, for example, one comments said good thing about this book for IPv6, but this book did not discuss IPv6 at all!), so I think it should include more recent topics. But I found I just waste my money. All the topics descripted in is book is very shallow. Some is not correct at all (for example, its description for 802.1X port-based authentication is not correctly in page 138-143.).The 2nd version of "802.11 wireless networks the definitive guide" is published 12 years ago. Hope the author publish the third version soon.

Any version of this book is great--it has evolved as the field of linguistics has evolved, and since this is an older version, is more affordable than the most recent edition--I use this in my undergraduate and graduate classes alike--best general introduction to the various sub disciplines of linguistics, such as morphology, syntax, phonology, phonetics, and so forth, that there is available today. Perhaps a bit too much on sign language, depending on the volume, and a somewhat outdated (even the newest version) and chaotic view of syntax, it still is the benchmark upon which similar books are based. I have used the 4th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th editions over the years, and though I have constantly looked for others, tried some here and there, this is still the one I return to for my basic text in my introductory linguistics courses.

This is a good textbook, as textbooks go. The exercises look especially valuable, although I haven't done them yet (I'm pre-reading this for a class I will be taking).The explanations could be better in many cases. It takes a special skill and perspective to write to people who don't already have a deep understanding of your subject. The writers of this textbook have somewhat failed to do this. So along with this book, I am reading The Study of Language, which I find to be a simpler, more clear presentation of the topic.

This is a very good introduction to theoretical linguistics and its subdisciplines. Some of the concept are somewhat difficult, but it's nothing that a good re-read can't fix. It covers all the components that make up linguistics i.e. phonology, syntax, etc. but it also adds some cool chapters on language and the brain, language change, and psycholinguistics which are all plusses in my book. This textbook provides good cartoons to illustrate some key points,the exercises are good for beginner's (perhaps some too easy) and the authors provide some really good suggested readings although some might the suggestions insanely difficult to read even after reading this book (for example, after reading the chapter on syntax, it suggests you read Chomsky's minimalist program. If this is the student's first introduction to syntax, then I really doubt they could tackle that book). All in all, I think its a perfect book to use in an introductory language class. The only problem I have with this book is its price. Way too expensive!!!

I used this text for an Introduction to Linguistics course, and found it very informative and entertaining. Although the text often mentions how its content would benefit ESL teachers, I feel that anyone interested in studying languages and/or interested in analyzing the various components of a language (for example morphology, syntax, grammatical elements, etc.) would find this text a fascinating read.The book is divided into logical and digestible chapters to give the student a concrete, general overview of what language is and the various theories pertinent to the study of it. The included exercises were relevant and helpful, encouraging the student to apply and practice what was covered and encouraging thoughtful discussion in the classroom. I also enjoyed the various drawings and humorous references in the book, that made the content enjoyable and easy to digest (who says learning has to be boring?). I still refer back to this book every so often simply because it is full of fascinating theories and concepts - highly recommended.

I started an MA program in Linguistics with a concentration in TESOL. The intro class required this text as its only text. The price on amazon.com was approx. $20 less than the bookstore/other store prices. It is a good value for the Amazon price.Aesthetics: It's a softcover book so it will get wrinkled at some point. There are cartoons in the chapters that break up the text and illustrate some go points.Info: The information is in an easy to comprehend format that is organized well. As you move on past morphology into syntax, the the info becomes more technical and complex. I suggest taking notes as you go so you can process the info better. The info is presented in a way that is as clear cut as they can get. My one gripe is that they constantly reference later chapters for info they bring up earlier.Overall: If you need to get this for a linguistics course or as a supplement, it's a good deal. If you are just dabbling, beware that the book gets technical and slightly confusing at chapter 3 or 4.

It deftly avoids the overly pedantic tone of most books on linguistics (such as _Women, Fire, and Dangerous Things_) with a casual yet scholarly touch, along with a sprinkling of humor than never descends into the sophomoric. Glenn Miller's trip is a daring but calculated proposition: to go to Kathmandu, accompanied by his wife, Graz, and grown children, Andrew and Megan, trek through Nepal with an English-speaking guide and two porters. Initially, Glenn seems the most enthusiastic. This is a high-stakes reunion with neither fast-food restaurants nor fluffy hotel-guaranteed futons. Given his literary and romantic-adventurer disposition, considerable hiking experience, as well as intense commitment to the project, it makes sense that he would invest a great deal in pleasing everyone. All members of the party are seasoned world travellers; his son is a professional photographer who supplies many of the photographs in the book. Those are the moments to remember."The miracle of the thing is that on many levels as the trek progresses the plan actually seems to work, even if the only person who seems to be smiling in the pictures at times is their intrepid daughter Megan. It is November, not April, and this is not the Canterbury Tales; these pilgrims are in contemporary Nepal, which is barely nibbling at the edges of modernity, and headed for 16,230 feet. That everyone mostly manages to do what they set out to do is a tribute to the Miller family's emotional mortar that shores up chinks along the way as well as the excellence of Dorjee, their guide, and the two compassionate porters. The Millers are tough travellers and very real. They aren't afraid to tackle life without handrails. We hear it as it happened, in intimate, gritty detail that is strangely comforting and endearing. What distinguishes The Diarist from certain other travel writers is not his acute dedication to absorbing every moment of the trip as if he were a sponge, but rather his reflective honesty and artistry in blotting his own rorschach so exquisitely back onto the paper.My only disappointment was that he left me at 2,690 feet in Beni with a brief itinerary of the rest of his trip. To usurp a couple of lines from his poem that appears at the front of the book I can only imagine as The Diarist and his family "(you) disappear into the strangeness/into the flicker of a silent movie/that keeps unreeling..."I can't wait to be a fly on the backpack of The Diarist's next trip and I hope another book is soon forthcoming. Next time, I am setting up comfortably in my armchair with my provisions so that I can match every step and savour every moment.

Wonderful book!

I found this to be an excellent book to learn about the history of Egmont Key with much of the information the authors obtained from a woman who grew up on Egmont and knew exactly what had occurred over the years. The authors also obviously did much research into the very early years, 1800's, to provide information for the reader.I first saw Egmont in the mid 50's as a boy while fishing with my dad during a family vacation, after having moved to the area in the late 50's it was not until the late 70's that I discovered what I had seen as a child. Over the years I became interested in the history of the area I lived and Egmont was high on the list of curious places. Well now thanks to Donald and Carol Thompson the authors my curiosity has been mostly satisfied I now need only to go there and walk around.Excellent book if you to, are curious.

Given as a gift to my better half history buff. Really enjoy the history!
