Betty had her heart broken when her ex-boyfriend left her to marry another woman after spending months belittling her in the hospital back in New York. Axel was the only survivor in a tragic helicopter accident that killed his brother, leaving him to raise his niece as his own. His father has never forgiven him for surviving and also belittles him in the hospital in Iceland. The two of them have a lot more in common than they realize at first, which lays the foundation for a great connection.They ride a roller coaster of emotions while getting to know each other, being thrust into difficult situations in the hospital, and trying to heal from their pasts. They immediately click in the operating room and when caring for others, so it's no surprise that they click in a relationship as well. They don't realize how much they need each other until it's almost too late.Yes, there is a formulaic plot of sorts. I don't care. It's still a fun twist on an old storyline that has all kinds of unique elements to keep the pages turning. I needed something easy and uplifting the weekend that I read it. And how can you beat spending time together under the famed Northern Lights? I also enjoyed getting to know more about Iceland along the way. I have friends and family who have visited and loved every minute of it. I felt like I got to know a bit more about little bits they may have experienced on their trips. I love reading about romance in faraway places. It adds to the dreamy nature of the story.I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.
I think this was my first trip to Iceland and what a trip it was, to see two people who need help with things from the past and to be able to give to each other the love and caring needed was beautiful and the sights of Iceland the beautiful northern lights amazing, take a seat and enjoy this one.Betty Jacinth is a great doctor in New York but after being used, cheated on and dumped by her ex, she decides that a change is just what the doctor needs, so she goes to Iceland to take up a temporary position. She is not looking for love or anything permanent, but when she meets surly Dr Axel Sturlusson well let’s say things are going to change for Betty.Axel has been struggling since a tragedy took his brother from him and he is now caring for his fourteen year old niece and a very grumpy father who is also his boss at the hospital. When he is charged with the responsibility of the American doctor he is not overly impressed, but there seems to be a pull between them at their first meeting, could this lead to something?MS Ruttan writes the best stories and this one is just so good, I do highly recommend it, fabulous characters that add to the true joy of Betty and Axel’s journey to a moving and gorgeous HEA, to see Betty grow in strength and Axel overcome his fears, oh and I loved Eira she is so good at encouraging and playing match-maker, I loved this story thank you MS Ruttan.
Rating 4.5/5*This is a real page turner read, with a talented surgeon, Betty Jacinth, travelling to work in Iceland for three months, just like her father did decades before. She’s going now because she’s ready for a change after the untimely death of her father and discovering that her now ex-boyfriend - and manipulative boss who used her skills and undermined her self belief to promote himself - is marrying someone else.When she arrives in Iceland she’s met by Dr Axel Sturlusson, someone she’ll be working with and whose father was close friends with her own.Alex has issues of his own to contend with. He was the sole survivor of an incident in which his beloved older brother perished. Alex is suffering from PSTD and survivor guilt as well as trying to bring up his orphaned teenage niece, Eira, and cope with his own father’s awful attitude and behaviour to them both. Whilst he initially resents being given the added responsibility of sorting things out for Betty, she soon brightens the lives of both Alex and Eira. However, she’s only staying for three months. Can they overcome their fears and give their love a chance? You’ll have to read it yourself to discover what happens!This is the first book I’ve read that has been set in Iceland and now I’d really like to visit to see if it is as lovely as the author’s great descriptions suggest. It is an engaging read that I didn’t want to put down. There are so many emotional barriers to this romance and just how they can be overcome make it an enthralling read. I’ll definitely be looking out for more by this author in future and have no hesitation in highly recommending this book to anyone who enjoys medical romances or stories where someone regains their confidence and is able to stand up for themselves again!I requested and was given a copy of this book, via NetGalley. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.
